Interview>>
Woogie Ham (US edition, 17/08/01)
Shown in the UK for the first time on Friday 17th August, the Weakest
Link featuring Woogie (full name Woogie Ham) was without doubt one of
the all time classics. The Banter between Anne and Woogie was highly entertaining
as Woogie dished out a few insults of his own - even one aimed at our
Anne. We get his first UK interview since the show aired on BBC2
Q: Before we get into the details of your episode
I'd like to know about the Weakest Link experience and the studio etc.
First of all, whilst your in the studio, do you get to hear the background
sound effects and do you see how much money you have banked?
A: When you are in the studio, they do play the sound effects. There are
two screens also. One that shows the game timer, and one that shows the
money level for each question. That screen does not show the amount of
money banked. The only thing you don't hear is the announcer they dub
in later with the statistics.
Q: I understand you only just managed to get through
the auditions and onto the show. How tough is it to get onto the show
and what did you have to go through before you got to see the Queen of
Mean?
A: Well I got through the first round of the auditions pretty easily.
I made the cut of 30 people out of over 600 people who auditioned for
the show in Philadelphia. They took us in groups of about 150 people.
The audition consisted of filling out an in-depth audition form, introducing
yourself and taking a test. Everyone who goes to the audition goes through
this. They then grade the tests and read out the names of the people they
would like to move on to the final round of the audition. In my opinion,
their choices are based on Personality 40%, Appearance 30%, Test Score
20% and Occupation 10%. In the final round of auditions you do a video
taped interview and a video taped round of a mock game. The contestant
talent scouts ask you for you availability. They thank you and send you
on your way. Getting on the show was a different matter. I went out to
Los Angeles California twice. There is an AM and PM taping of TWL. They
bring out twelve contestants for each taping. Out of those 12, they choose
8 to be on the show. The remaining 4 are held in reserve, should someone
get sick or be disqualified for one reason or another. If you are in the
PM taping group, the remaining 4 from the Am group get put into to PM
group, so the selection is now 8 out of 16 for that show. I didn't get
selected for the show the first time out. I was in the PM taping group.
I was called back out 2 weeks later. I was in the AM taping group but
didn't make the show either. I got put into the PM taping group and finally
made that show. There is no telling how the executive producers make their
final choices for the show.
